Each template builds into a cute, boxy-style 3D animal that can stand on its own, making them great for both crafting and playing.

About This 3D Craft Collection

This is a big printable pack! Inside, you will find 12 separate sets of templates, one for each animal.

Each animal craft is designed to be straightforward to assemble. They are a great step up from simple coloring pages for kids, ready for a fun challenge.

Animals Included in the Pack

I’ve included a wide variety of popular animals so every child can find a favorite to build.

The 12 animals you can create are:

You can build just one, or try to create the entire paper zoo!

Benefits of Paper Crafting

Activities like these 3D paper crafts are more than just a fun way to spend an afternoon. They are also excellent for child development.

Building these models helps improve fine motor skills through careful cutting and folding. Following the assembly steps encourages patience and focus.

Working with a flat template to create a 3D object is also a great exercise in spatial reasoning. And, of course, the finished animals are perfect for sparking hours of imaginative play.

Supplies Needed for Your Crafts

You only need a few basic crafting supplies to bring these 3D animals to life.

Supplies Needed:

Here is what I recommend for building your paper animals:

  • Our Free Animal Craft Templates PDF: There are 12 different files.
  • Printer: A standard color or black-and-white printer.
  • White Cardstock Paper: (Highly recommended for sturdy models!)
  • Scissors: For cutting out the template pieces.
  • Glue: A good quality craft glue or glue stick.

With these items ready, you can start building your paper menagerie.

How to Assemble Your Animals:

  1. Download and Print: Save the PDF and print the pages for the animal you want to build. Use cardstock for best results.
  2. Cut Out the Pieces: Carefully cut along the solid outer lines of each piece of the template.
  3. Score and Fold: For crisp edges, score along all the dotted fold lines before folding them.
  4. Glue Together: Apply a small amount of glue to the marked tabs and attach them to the corresponding parts to build your 3D animal!

Tips for the Best 3D Animals

Here are a few extra tips to make sure your paper animals turn out great:

  • Use Cardstock: I highly recommend using a thicker paper like cardstock. It makes the models much sturdier and easier to glue together.
  • Score the Folds: Before folding, run a blunt edge (like a butter knife or an empty pen) along the fold lines using a ruler. This gives you crisp, clean folds.
  • Be Patient with Glue: Use a small amount of glue on the tabs. Hold the pieces together for a few seconds to let the glue set before moving on.
  • Build One at a Time: Focus on completing one animal before starting the next to avoid mixing up the pieces.
