Step-by-Step Bat Drawing Instructions
Step 1: The Head and Hair
Start by drawing a circle in the upper middle of your paper.
To make your bat look a little extra cute, add a tiny zig-zag tuft of hair right at the top of the circle.

This gives the head some character and makes it look less like a plain ball. Make sure you leave plenty of room on the sides of the head for the wings we will add later!
Step 2: The Face
Next, let’s give our bat a happy face. Inside the circle, draw two solid black dots for the eyes.

Right below the eyes, draw a shape that looks like a wide letter “W” to create the mouth. To finish the look, add a small “V” or “U” shape peeking out from the middle of the “W” for a little tongue. Now your bat looks friendly and ready to fly.
Step 3: Large Bat Ears
Bats are known for their great hearing, so they need big ears! On the top sides of the head, draw two large, pointy triangle shapes.

These should be quite tall—almost as tall as the head itself. At this stage, your drawing might look a little bit like a cat, but don’t worry, the wings will change that soon.
Step 4: The Body and Ear Details
Now we will add the body and some detail to the ears. Draw a smaller oval shape directly underneath the head.

This is the bat’s body. Then, go back to the ears and draw a smaller triangle line inside each one. This represents the inner part of the ear and gives your drawing more depth.
Step 5: Starting the Wings
This is the most important part! To start the wings, draw two lines coming out from where the head meets the body.

Each line should go out to the side, bend upward, and then point out to a sharp tip. Think of these like the top “arms” of the wings. Try to make them as symmetrical as possible on both sides.
Step 6: Scalloped Wings and Tiny Feet
To finish the wings, draw a series of curved “scalloped” lines from the wingtips back to the body.

This creates the classic bat-wing shape that looks like an umbrella. Finally, add two tiny “U” shapes at the very bottom of the body for the feet. Your bat is now complete and ready to take to the skies!
Congratulations! You have officially learned how to draw a bat.

Time to Color
Now it’s time to bring your bat to life with some color. While most bats in nature are brown or black, cartoon bats look great in shades of purple or dark grey.

You can make the inner ears a lighter pink or purple to make them stand out.
If you want to get creative, you could even draw a night sky with a yellow moon behind your bat!
Happy drawing!
